East meets West-geographically, culturally and historically.
That’s the best way to describe what Istanbul looks like. While walking on the
street you can see a skyscraper rise against the ornamented walls of a palace
from Ottoman’s era, or you can hear a popular song with Arabic beats
originating from a music store blending against the modern techno beats of a
night club. Or, just simply take a walk on the Bosphorus Bridge; literally the
border that takes you from one continent-Asia to the other-Europe.
Yes,
Istanbul is situated at a crosspoint of two continents; that’s why it has
played a major role in history as a capital to many big empires; Roman,
Byzantium and finally Ottomans. Now it is a big cosmopolitan city with more
than 14 million population representing the modern Turkey.
